![]() Maybe the id thieves had incredibly lucky timing, but honestly I am scared of even a day long lift at this point. Not sure if that is better (get it more quickly) or worse (more prone to interception). Interestingly, when I did complete thaw via phone (to remove the temporary lift which had not yet expired), then re froze via phone, I ended up receiving new PIN via email instead of mail. Spent the rest of the day on the phone with Experian, relevant CU, police dept, etc. Op here again resurrecting my old thread.Īs a counterpoint, I lifted my freeze on Sat or Sun and by Monday morning I received an alert for an instant hard credit pull that was not done by me. Apparently, they have made a change and no longer allow to do this. It is not a problem with Equifax or Transunion, and I USED to do this with Experian just fine. All lenders say leave unfrozen for duration of refinance, but I think I've done a bit too many apps and I'm worried that I'll run over the 14 days. ![]() With that said, I am also trying to refinance, and I am nearing the end of my 14 day shopping period. I haven't been doing it this way as I'm too worried that they'll pull my credit too late and I'll have to play phone tag with them.įor example, Citibank took at least 7 days to open account after I applied with them (bank account), not sure whether the initial soft pull was at time of application or some other time. ^^ THIS is why I asked earlier why you wanted to change the dates. The bad actors would need to have incredibly fortunate timing to take advantage of that very brief window of opportunity. I don't think leaving the credit reports open for a few days creates enough risk to worry about refreezing at the moment I know the other party has completed their review. Want to provide time for the bank or CU or finance company to complete their review, especially now that many people are working remotely. In addition, you may incur fees to place, lift and/or remove a credit freeze. Whenever I unfreeze, I do it for a few days. credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
